Farewell pinched fingers. Good-bye dangling cords. This is National Window Safety Week --- a time for everyone to "take stock" of your window treatments and windows.
Sponsored by the National Safety Council, National Window Safety Week shines a spotlight on educating homeowners on how to prevent falls through windows. It also focuses on understanding how dangerous window treatments can be in the home.
Naturally window safety should be practiced year-round, but this particular week reminds us of several things:
? If you have children or pets, make certain you do not have cords loosely hanging from blinds or curtains. These can cause a choking hazard.
? Wherever your windows are located in your home, make sure screens are properly attached and that everyone understands screens cannot prevent a fall.
? Create and practice home evacuation plans in case of a fire. Everyone should know how to safely operate windows if exiting in an emergency includes departing through windows.
? Review the window safety checklist from the National Safety Council.
Safety Solutions
If you're evaluating how to reduce window safety risks in your home, we can help.
When selecting Hy-Lite privacy windows, you immediately eliminate the need for blinds, curtain or shades. Our windows are a decorative and privacy-affording part of a room … so there's no reason to put up window treatments in front of them. Whether you select acrylic block windows or decorative glass windows, you can do so with the confidence that window treatments are not needed.
However, if you prefer to control the amount of light coming into a room, but still want safety, we can also help there. Vari-Lite Windows by Hy-Lite feature between-glass blinds that can easily be raised, lowered and tilted open.
The fingertip controls on the side of the window allow you to select the view you desire: full view, partial view or full closed for maximum privacy. And, because the blinds are encased in clear tempered safety glass, the cord-free operation reduces safety risks to children and pets.
As the weather turns warmer, take the time to discuss window safety with everyone in your home. And, when it's time to replace your windows, make sure to visit us at www.hy-lite.com for details on privacy windows.
