Making Rainbows

When Christina and Bart Thoreson decided to replace a clear glass octagon-shaped window in their bathroom, they had no idea the impact it would have on their home … or their family.

The Thoresons selected a new octagon-shaped decorative glass window from Hy-Lite as part of their renovation project. With the bathroom located on the first floor, they were after some much-needed privacy.

Problem
"One evening before the renovation I was standing in the bathroom," says Christina Thoreson. "I simply looked out the window and saw my husband on our property. If I could easily look out, I knew anyone could look in. That was unsettling."

Since the window was the only source of natural light in the bathroom, the couple had no window coverings over it. They considered adding a window film or curtain, but again, didn't want to reduce the natural flow of light.

Solution
"I had been introduced to Hy-Lite's products and fell in love with the architectural shaped octagon window," says Thoreson. "The glass pattern on the Geometric-style window is simply beautiful inside and out.

"On the exterior, the black caming complements our new light fixtures we installed as part of our siding update. And on the interior, the privacy is perfect. Plus, our two-year old daughter is enamored with the 'rainbow effect' the window has as it diffuses the light into the bathroom!"

Bonus Project
Their new Hy-Lite window has motivated the Thoresons to take a second look at their older bathroom.

"I hadn't planned to make any other changes to this bathroom, but the window has actually inspired me to replace the flooring," says Thoreson. "We're going to replacing the existing floor with a fun concrete tile that complements the black caming in the window. I also want to install subway tile around the tub and repaint the room in a fun, bold color. All these ideas started with the one replacement privacy window!"

Thoreson believes that the Hy-Lite privacy window is the perfect fit for her home.

"I really like that we could remain true to the original design of the home by maintaining the octagon window shape," says Thoreson. "And, I truly appreciate that Hy-Lite helped elevate the look of our home with a window that's both beautiful and also helps us feel more comfortable inside our home."
