BEAUMONT CA Spring 2003 - In response to demands from consumers and building industry professionals for more energy efficient acrylic block windows, Hy-LiteŽ Products has developed and introduced Solar Blocks --- a new thermally-efficient acrylic block. Designed to meet new stringent energy codes adopted in various parts of the county, the Solar Block is available nationwide. The Solar Block gains its energy efficiency from a micro-layer of metal adhered to the inside surface of one side of the block during the manufacturing process. The side of the acrylic block facing the exterior of a project has the coating applied, giving the block a slightly tinted look that helps deflect the sun's rays and lower the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of the unit.
"The Solar Block beats the minimum .40 shading coefficient that is required in Texas and other areas adopting the IECC 2000 Building Code," says Karl Hatrak, product/process development director for Hy-Lite Products.
